Amy Becker

Hello!  My Name is Amy Becker, and I am the school social worker for Early Childhood-Second Grade at the Fairmont Elementary School.  I grew up in St. Clair, MN.  After I graduated from high school, I attended Bethany Lutheran College where I earned an Associate of Arts Degree.  Then, I attended Minnesota State University, Mankato and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work.  In 2017, I obtained my Master's Degree in Professional School Counseling.

My husband and I moved to Fairmont in 2002.  We have three children who attend school at Fairmont Area Schools.  I have been working at Fairmont Elementary since 2013.  I am committed to working with students and families to help support their academic, personal, and social needs so each student may reach their full potential.

School Social Work Services

Group Services

Throughout the school year, small group services will be available to students based on student needs.  Groups generally consist of 4 to 8 students.  Groups meet approximately once per week for 30 minutes.  Referrals for groups come from teachers and parents.  Small group options include:

  • Grief and Loss

  • Social Skills

  • Friendship Skills

  • Family Change/Divorce

  • Emotion Management

  • Self-Esteem

Individual Services

One on one services are provided to students who are experiencing concerns with friendships, personal issues, academics, or family matters.  The services may be a one time meeting or ongoing regular scheduled meetings.  These meetings are generally focused on issues that interfere with the student's success (academic and social) within the school environment.  If a student needs ongoing therapy, I am able to assist the family with locating community resources.

Family Support

In addition to individual services with students, I collaborate with families to ensure students' academic and personal/social needs are met.  This may include problem solving concerns that parents may have about school or issues at home or connecting families with community resources.  Some available community resources include:

  • Food support

  • Financial assistance services

  • Case management for developmental delays and mental health

  • Mentoring programs

  • Counseling services

  • Substance abuse services

  • Medical services

Classroom Education

Every student is provided social and emotional learning in their classroom. I specifically provide students information on being resilient and managing emotions, especially when experiencing strong emotions such as anger, frustration, nervousness, and sadness. I also teach all students how to recognize the size of problems they encounter, so they are able to match the size of their reaction to the size of the problem.

If you feel your student or family is in need of any of the services listed above, please contact me to discuss this further.
